Social responsibility: The challenge of making your employees comply

Grundfos' chairman Niels Due Jensen has always been in the front seat when it comes to acting socially responsible. But how does he as a leader make sure, his employees live up to such moral standards? Niels Due Jensen speaks at a WELLseminar in Aarhus on the 13th of October.

The chairman of worldwide pump manufacturer Grundfos, Niels Due Jensen, has always been seen as one of the forefront-leaders for the Danish business community, when it comes to social responsibility.

Hence, Grundfos, which Niels Due Jensens father founded in 1945, is a member of the UN Global Compact, and the company has won several prices for its environmental- and employee-responsible way of conducting business. The overall goal for Grundfos is, according to the website:

“That when this generation delivers Planet Earth to the next generation, it should be a cleaner and more energising place than the place which we inherited.”

Achieving such a goal makes it even more important to make sure that the employees take part in the company vision and comply with it. This is, above all, a question of communication.

Being an ambassador
The leader's most important task communication wise is to be an ambassador for these values both internally in the company and externally towards the surrounding society, according to Steffen Lüders, the managing director of GCI Mannov, a Danish public relations agency. This is, of course, a big challenge for the man at the end of the table.
