The 'Dirty Money' Conference
Posted 24-12-2005
On December 8, 2005, WELL and Transparency International Denmark hosted a successful conference on corruption.
By Karim Buus Drif, WELL

As recognition of the need to combat corruption grows, so does the need for information exchange among the increasing number of organisations and institutions involved with respect to the manifestations of corruption and the different strategies for counteracting corruption in varying contexts. To this end, the national Anti-Corruption Conference 'Dirty Money' has brought together practitioners and academics to exchange information and ideas about the fight against corruption.

The premier forum for anti-corruption knowledge
'Dirty Money' is now the premier Danish forum for the networking and cross-fertilization that is indispensable for effective global and national advocacy and action. The conference attracted politicians, national and local government officials, representatives of the business, the judicial, law enforcement and accounting professions, researchers, international development organizations, the media, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), in short, all those who through their work come or could come into contact with the many forms of corruption and who are concerned with the prevention or prosecution of corrupt practices.

A networking opportunity
The success and value of the conference has gained wide national attention. It stimulates the exchange of experience and methodologies in controlling corruption, and fosters national cooperation among agencies and citizens from all parts of society. Importantly, too, they help to develop personal relationships between senior officials of the agencies and organisations involved by providing a major opportunity for face-to-face dialogue and direct liaison.
